» tell a friend - help spread the word
Word of mouth goes a long way for indie films! Obviously we don't have the budget to plaster our film on the side of every building and highway we can get our hands on... so we rely heavily on awesome people who find our film, like it, and decide to tell someone else about it.
It's easy. You could help a ton by
posting a myspace bulletin,
sending your Facebook-friends our episodes, or
writing a short review on StubmleUpon.
You could help our "street cred" on iTunes by taking a few minutes to sign in and say something about the podcast.
There's countless ways to spread the word: Twitter, link-love, IMing, emailing, sky writing, et cetera. Be as creative or as straight forward as you'd like, and be sure to let us know you're out there telling other people so we can thank you properly on 'We Heart You Too'.
I suppose there's also physically approaching someone and verbally telling them about Pedal... but that's crazy talk.

» get your swag on (aka free stuff)
Who doesn't love "stuff we all get"? We're not a full blown merchandising powerhouse... yet :P
But we do have 4 different free Pedal buttons (designed by the lovely Karen Abad)! Getting one (or a few) is super easy, just mail a self-addressed envelope to Project Pedal 8968 Mercedes Dr. Arleta, CA 91331... or if you'd like, donate a $1 and we'll send you some ourselves.
The awesome video to the left is from David (new website here), he made it after receiving a Project Pedal button - if you're curious about getting a closer look at the buttons just click play.

We
Vimeo, they are coding geniuses, and we're big fans of their "hubnut" widget - it's always updated with all our episodes, and best of all, you can scale it to fit in your sidebar, a blog post, or anywhere else you'd like.
It's as versatile as it is sexy.

» we like friendly people
There's a lot of social sites out there - more spring up everyday, so, it would be crazy for us to try and list them all. But if you're on one that you fancy, we'd be flattered if you added us as a friend.
Not only does it let us know you're out there watching and interested in Pedal, but it's one more place another person could stumble across our film, adding us to your friends list is probably one of the fastest and easiest ways to help spread the word.

» watch a fan-made video... make your own
Above is a scrolling playlist of fan-made videos for Pedal on Vimeo - some are silly, some are serious, and each of them are so exciting for us to watch. I honestly never, never, ever thought (when starting this film) that anyone would make their own fan-made video for us!
We've also always been very proud of this episode of 'The Clip Show' (also the 50th episode of the show) feature our project!
If you make your own video for Pedal be sure to let us know about it! We'd love to add into our video-mix.

» help fund an independent film
A lot has changed since first posting the original "how much will cost" breakdown over four years ago. Firstly, the saying 'everything cost twice as much as you budget', is kinda' true: Pedal originally was supposed to cost around $10,000. Having just finished production, it's safe to say the film is pushing $35,000... still cheap for a film, but more than we first expected. Part of this, well almost 90% of this, is because originally the idea was to bike ourselves across the country, and document it with little cameras and just "see what happens". Obviously that isn't the approach we took in the end.
Now we are back from the road, with (at best) a years worth of editing ahead of us (don't quote me on that). Which requires hard-drive space, pick-up shots, 16mm film processing, time, more hard-drive space, lots of writing, software... and I'm sure, with the way things have always gone in the past: plenty of things we never saw coming.
Making a donation to the project will greatly help us afford the time and equipment we need, as well as pay off the $8,000 we borrowed, during production, to finish the film.
You can use paypal, our IndieGoGo profile, or check out Pedal's Amazon WishList. Every little bit is very, very, very appreciated.

» suggest music for the film's soundtrack
Music is a huge, huge, huge part of this project. Music is one of my main sources of inspiration, picking out what's right, I have a feeling, is going to be the hardest part of this film. So, if you know a great indie band, or have a kick-ass song you think would be perfect for Pedal (doesn't have to be indie, by the way); it would be awesome to hear from you! If you suggest a song that is used in the final film; we'll add your name to the credits!
» submit your bicycle trip pictures & videos to stockpile
We are so excited about reaching out to other travelers, and using
all the amazing experiences we've had, and all the beautiful places
we've seen, to build a real sense of being connected by the road
we've all shared at different points in time. All you need to do to be a part of 'For Thousands of Miles' is upload any pictures or videos to Stockpile (in doing so you're granting us permission to include those materials in the film under a Creative Commons license).
On top of sharing them with us, you're also putting them out into the world for other people to enjoy - people who perhaps are planning their own trips and are in need of inspiration, or maybe people who have take the exact same route as you might have years ago and are looking to reminisce :)
